Success!

February 2nd, 2010

Quick post here. Finally figured(sorta) out the menu/name problems! They use the same font, yet were encoded in an entirely different way, luckily, they can be replaced with ASCII and still work just fine. I don’t know why they decided that for the menus, instead of say… ル being F984 instead of the SJIS 838B that’s used in the rest of the game.

It will forever be a mystery.

Progress!

January 24th, 2010

‘Ello folks! I’ve gotten all the items translated now, so I’m just going through the task of putting them in the game and swapping pointers around to make it all work. I (badly) wrote up a little app to simplify the process. Sadly the text in the game doesn’t seem to be in a really uniform order, so I wasn’t able to write any sort of auto-insertion program :( Doing this by hand sucks XD

Unexciting screenshot time :x

Not dead yet.

January 19th, 2010

Hey peeps! Sorry for the silence spell cast over this blog :x Things are still movin’, albeit slowly. I did get some more translation done on both Shiren and Torneko while I was off on vacation, but not nearly as much as I wanted to since the sata controller on my laptop went kaput about a week in. I’m back now though, so work can finally continue in between brewing beer and college classes XD

Just a quick update… Part Ⅱ

November 2nd, 2009

Thanks to Jeff’s help, I’ve been able to fix up the font spacing and add in a much better looking(in my opinion) font. Let me know what ya think!

Just a quick update…

…we finally got a (good) translator! Progress is coming along quite smoothly so far. More updates as they come, I suppose :P

New Project: Update!

October 12th, 2009

Ok, now that I’ve actually got some work done on it, I’d like to announce Orenji’s 3rd project: Dragon Quest Characters: Torneko’s Great Adventure 3 Advance. This game is another rogue-like from Chunsoft, this time taking place in the Dragon Quest/Dragon Warrior universe. So far I’ve only got the main menu and some of the intro completed(that’s right! Actual dialogue! XD), but its progressing at a good pace. Right now we’re looking for another (better) translator and someone who has knowledge of GBA ASM(need some help with the font). I’ve only got 2 pictures right now since I’m too lazy.. oh and disregard the butt-ugly font for now. That’s the ASCII  font that came built-in and we’re hoping to replace, but we’re not sure where/how its stored, but it doesn’t seem to be visible via a tile editor(compressed possibly?).

New project

October 1st, 2009

Shiren is on a little bit of a hold right now, but its still being worked on. I’m also working on a new side project, but I’ll announce that later once more progress has been made.

Intro

September 8th, 2009

Hi! Welcome to Orenji Translation’s new blog! I’ve finally decided to start one so that keeping up on our projects is made just a lil bit easier.

I’ll start this off by noting that the v0.2 patch of Shiren the Wanderer 2 was released last week. This new patch fixes many of the bugs present in v0.1.1 and translates a whole lot more of the in-game messages, items and status effects. The status so far is probably about:

Monster names: 100%

Monster descriptions: 0%

Item names: 100%(?)

Item descriptions: 1%

In-game messages: 40%

Menus: 90%

Dialogue: 0%

My goal for the v0.3 patch is to have a majority of the item descriptions translated, since that seems to be the most requested feature and is integral to using many of the scrolls/staves. Right now I’m working on writing an extracter/inserter for the item descriptions, since those are stored in a different format than most of the text. I’ll try and keep this blog updated as things happen(college classes permitting, of course).
